It is a nice trip towards the eastern part of Serbia and the entrance to the national park Djerdap and sightseeing places like Golubac fortress, which is located at the very entrance of the Danube into the Djerdap Gorge, an archeological site from the time of the Romans, as well as the lunch break and bathing in Silver Lake. It is agreeable to extend the tour and that would include ride to the oldest archaeological site of an urban European settlement that dates from 9500 BC before the new era – Lepenski Vir.
Vimnacium was a town and Roman military camp in the period between the 1st and the 7th century. It was one of the most important camps of Roman Legion on the Danube and the capital of the Roman province of Mezija, which stretched across a large part of today’s Serbia, Macedonia and Bulgaria.
Golubac is 14th-century fortress is popular both for foreign and domestic tourists and is fully adapted to the visitors, so you can also visit the medieval cretaceous, Mahmud-Paša’s hamam and the Roman house.
If you have not extended your tour by Djerdap highway to Lepenski Vir, you will have time to visit Silver Lake in return. This 14 kilometers long artificial lake resulting from rebuilding the Danube is nothing glamorous, but its sandy beaches, clean water and brilliant fish restaurants make it worth seeing as part of this excursion.
